The Intervention in the Domingo Gascón Square transforms a space formerly occupied by the municipal market back into its old condition as an open, public area. This also manages to house a public, recreational and semi-buried equipment of multiples uses.
Really excited with the upcoming plans. We´ll give a lecture at ETSA USJ (Zaragoza, Spain) April 16th. We´ll participate in a panel discussion with Beatriz Colomina and Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, TBA (Madrid, Spain) April 29th. And we´ll be in a workshop in Seoul, Korea from the 20th to the 24th of May.
From the beginning, the project was conceived as the possibility of making the “underground” visible, a construction devised as a radical manifestation of Madrid’s outskirts youthful spirit in general, and of Rivas´ youth groups in particular.

Recycling old public buildings to adapt them to new programmes attain here their maximum expression. The objective is to transform the old Town Hall, with all its municipal areas, in the new Youth Center. This entails transforming an inherited, rigid area, therefore conflicting with what a youth department programme in Madrid’s outskirts needs.
In parallel to our proffesional activities, we have developed an feedback role with academia. Raids inside other fields beyond architecture has been one of our challenges.
Recently, Nacho Martín obtained his Phd (Cum Laude) with his thesis "Space Suits. Clothing as an architectural project".
The project intensifies its principal purposes by defining its relationship with the environment; a new neighbour from Vallecas, silver and light amongst heavy brick buildings.
Our work has come from an intense activity around public competitions, we have moved our interests among differents battlefields: from the hedonistic seafront to the energetic youth culture. Not all of them won.
